READING LIST
  • The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali (Edwin Bryant translation recommendation for comprehensiveness, but many others are more readable for 'inspiration'. I am currently enjoying Barbara Stoler Miller’s terse but clear translation and commentary)
  • The Bhagavad Gita (any trans. For readability I like Barbara Stoler Miller)
  • The Mirror of Yoga - Richard Freeman (excellent overview of Yoga philosophy)
  • Samadhi - Gregor Maehle (optional reading that goes deep into the meditative stages of the 8th limb)

APPS
  • The Breathing App - by Eddie Stern, Moby and others. For Android + iOS. I simple way but clear way to perform some pranayama which I recommend before doing any formal Yoga medtitation.
  • Yogasutras - I lke this app for its clear presentation of the original sanskrit of the yoga sutras, and a translation of everyone word. I use it in conjunction with some of the more interpretnative english translations. I am not a fan of the commentary in it however. I use this app on Android - not sure if it is on iOS too. But I am sure there are many other Yoga Sutra apps to look at.
  • ​A meditation timer -  I use Zazan Meditation timer but I am sure many are just fine. I use it simply to set the time for how long i intend to sit for - no complicated features required.
